The Sound & The Fury

It’s safe to say that at this point, every drop of unintentional hilarity has been squeezed from the Insane Clown Posse’s “Miracles” video (though “Fucking magnets, how do they work?” is sure to live on as a spiritual descendant of “I’mma let you finish,” and “All your base are belong to us”), but stop by this week for something a little different and unexpected — a literate analysis of the song from a real-life juggalo. D.W. March (from Canada, of all places) won our second-ever ICP essay contest by comparing “Miracles” to Walt Whitman’s “When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer,” as per our prompt. Sure, his was the only essay we received, but it’s still a pretty good’un. Like if I were grading it as a freshman comp paper it would get a B-plus, easily.

But enough of that nonsense. It’s Local Music week (check out page 36 for more info), and there’s no real reason to skip town, seeing as how the most compelling non-local concert going down is New Braunfels’s Rally on the River (, which features an American Idol finalist (Amanda Overmyer), a band taping an upcoming episode of a FOX reality TV show (Geneva’s Rock ’n’ Ride), the self-proclaimed steepest motorbike racetrack in the world (American Hellrider’s Wall of Death), and something called “whip boxing.” OK, those last two might be worth the trip, but come right back when the trainwreck’s over. — Jeremy Martin
