Merle Haggard

Like Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard is part of the old-school outlaw-country generation and somehow has a similar way of appealing to a variety of listeners, who, if together in the same room, would probably try to kill each other. The “silent majority” adopted several of his 1960s country songs as anti-anti-war protests, but at the same time the Grateful Dead would often cover his music.
