When we reported on the August 27 Texas Music Extravaganza show at Leon Springs Dance Hall, we knew it would be a dynamite concert. What we didn’t know was that the event, a benefit for the March of Dimes, would be filmed and eventually shown on PBS. “It went great,” the Krayola’s Hector Saldaña told the Current in an email right after the show. “I stayed until the very end to see `former Mavericks’ leader` Raúl Malo play. He went on after midnight, and he was great. Augie `Meyers`, Flaco `Jiménez`, and Shawn `Sahm` kicked ass.” The movie also features performances by the Krayolas with the West Side Horns, Adam Aguilar, and the Vato Valley Boys (Augie and Flaco with Bluegrass legends Byron Berline, Dan Crary, and John Hickman, above). In case you missed it, we San Antonians get to see the film (concert, behind-the-scenes footage, and an exploration of the legacy of Augie, Flaco, and Doug Sahm) before anyone else. Come early: The screening is free but the space limited. Free, 8pm, Friday, November 27, Casbeers, 1150 S. Alamo, (210) 271-7791 — Enrique Lopetegui
