Echale! Latino Music Estyles featuring Ozomatli

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2011-03-16

In conjunction with the official opening of the Park at Pearl, the quickly growing complex launches a free, six-part concert series focusing on “genre-bending Latin music.” Taking off with an impressive bang, three-time Grammy-winning Los Angeles-based multi-cultural rockers Ozomatli (the band takes its name from the Nahuatl word for the Aztec astrological symbol of the monkey) headline Sunday’s bill with support from La Santa Cecilia (who’ve been described as “The Patron Saints of Genre-Bending” by “Ask a Mexican!” columnist Gustavo Arellano) and Mexico City’s Lázaro Valiente, a recording artist who’s currently in residence with Andy Benavides and SmartArt. Since there’s no guarantee the 1,000-seat Pearl Amphitheater won’t reach capacity, guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Beer, wine, tequila, a raw bar, and a street food station will be offered by La Gloria and Sandbar, but snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are also permitted. Free (parking available in the Kohler garage), doors at 6:30pm, Pearl Brewery, 200 E Grayson, atpearl.com.
