Run the Jewels' 'Meow the Jewels' Remix Is Now A Reality

Think of most absurd thing that can happen in today’s music scene. Now, imagine acclaimed hip hop duo Run the Jewels remixing their self-titled debut album with nothing but cat sounds. That dream is no longer a figment of our imaginations.

Thanks to a hardcore fan, a Kickstarter account was created to raise revenue for the fabled meow-remix of the excellent Run the Jewels 2. The project reached its goal and beyond, with a grand total of $65,783 and 2,326 backers. The deadline to donate was October 28, so if you wanted a slice of history, “MTJ” brand catnip, or even a chance for your cat’s vocals featured on Meow the Jewels, a wad of cash was mandatory. All proceeds went to the families of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, victims of police brutality.

The album will feature original members EL-P and Killer Mike collaborating with Just Blaze, The Alchemist. Geoff Barrow, Skywlkr, Zola Jesus, Nick Rook, Baauer, Prince Paul, Dan The Automator, Boots, and Solidified Sun— a purrfect blend of talent.

Watch the ridiculously adorable trailer below featuring clips of retro movies with cats randomly photoshopped onto explosions and actors, like a kitty action flick directed by Michael Bay. Check it out right meow.

Among the star studded cast of artist, there is still the most important collaborators missing: the cats themselves. EL-P took the auditioning process into his own hands as he made a doomed trip to an animal shelter. Despite EL-P blaring his music into the grumpy cat’s ears, they seemed less than eager to give their best meow, hissing instead. The cats must not be fans of hip-hop.
