9 San Antonio National Bike Month Events You Don't Want to Miss


Sunday, May 10, 10 a.m.
Cyclofemme

Earn-A-Bike Co-Op’s Women’s Wrench Night San Antonio hosts their first ever Cyclofemme ride. Ladies are encouraged to bring their partners, friends, children, parents and anything else you can think of to this event aimed at empowering women and providing a supportive community for women who cycle, or want to start. The chill 20-mile bike ride from Southtown down the Mission Reach Trail departs from the Blue Star Bike Shop. They will be making a stop at each of the beautiful, historical Missions—Mission Concepción, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan Capistrano, and Mission Francisco De La Espada—along the way. Visit the missions and grab brunch afterwards at Halcyon.

 Monday, May 11, 7 p.m. 
Dinner + Bikes

Eat from Joshua Ploeg’s gourmet vegan and (usually) gluten-free buffet spread while author and filmmaker Joe Biel plays a series of his short films about bicycle activism and culture. Local advocates and sponsors will then have a chance to get up and talk about their work promoting cycling. Author Elly Blue will the stage and gives a presentation about Bikenomics, showing the audience how to make a compelling economic case for bicycling, equity, and transportation activism. At the end there is a chance for questions, discussion, and browsing the Microcosm Publishing pop-up book and t-shirt store. LezRideSA

The LezRideSA Coalition uses cycling and exercise to promote, inspire and support LGBTQ and inclusion, diversity, wellness and community building through healthy adventures. Saturday, May 16, 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. 
Second Annual Bike Beat Festival

The Bike Beat Festival is held in the Main Plaza and includes food, live music and every aspect of cycling culture. Including bike fashion and about a million different educational bike maintenance and safety demonstrations. Main Plaza Conservancy’s goal with the festival is to normalize cycling within the everyday cultural life in downtown San Antonio for a greener lifestyle.

Meet at the Alamo Bike Shop and enjoy drinks from the Independence Brewing Co. and celebrate Bike Month. Afterwards, head to Taps Y Tapas and listen to live music from Stoic's Descent.

Two-Wheeler Thursday’s at Tuckers
 
Get drunk while socializing with like-minded bikers and listening to DJ Tech-Neek every Thursday. Happy Hour from 4-7 p.m. 

Bike World Shop Rides
Bike enthusiasts of all kinds meet up at the Bike World Shop rides. There are rides every Thursday night and Saturday mornings. For more information and to find out which shop the ride will depart from visit bikeworld.com.

Zombie Mondays
The Zombie Bicycle Club meets every Monday in front of the Blue Star Bike Shop. If the name is anything to go by, it should be interesting. It’s led by Matt Martinez, otherwise known as Chicken Fried Zombie. Known for it’s chill and fun vibe, the Zombie rides are a younger crowd known for bar hopping during rides. Other (non-alcoholic) places you may visit on your ride include the Hays Street Bridge or the Sunken Gardens.

Critical Mass Last Friday Ride
Meet at the Alamo every last Friday of the month to join one of the largest urban group rides in San Antonio. Departure time is 9:30 p.m. but cyclists start arriving around 9 p.m.
