Oppressive Government Takes On Children's Lemonade Stand

Apparently even kids aren’t safe from the regulation of big government. Sisters Andria and Zoey Green of Overton, Texas had their popcorn and lemonade stand shut down by the police. The shut-down was the due to the girls irresponsibly selling their goods without first obtaining the requisite $150 Peddler’s Permit. Under state law, anything that must be temperature-regulated to prevent bacterial growth requires an inspection and permit to sell.

The girls started the lemonade stand in order to raise $105 to take their dad to Splash Kingdom for Father’s Day.

The city graciously waived the fee for the two girls but stated that it is still subject to inspection by the state health department. Because, "It is a lemonade stand, but they also have a permit that they are required to get," according to Overton Police Chief Clyde Carter.

So, if your children have any entrepreneurial plans of their own this summer, you may want to encourage them to try something less controversial instead.
