A flash flood watch remains in effect for South Central Texas until Thursday morning.
Expect heavy rains and possible flooding in South Central Texas this week, courtesy of a tropical disturbance taking shape in the Gulf of Mexico.
The National Hurricane Center expects the disturbance to become a tropical storm Monday afternoon before making landfall on the mid- to upper Texas coast. The low pressure system is forecasted to dump heavy precipitation on San Antonio and the surrounding region, areas that saw record-breaking rainfall in May and devastating floods over the Memorial Day weekend.
A flash flood watch remains in effect until Thursday morning for much of South Central Texas, including Bexar and Travis Counties, as well as the Wimberley and San Marcos area, which was devastated by deadly floods just a few weeks ago.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring 1-3 inches of rain and 40-50 mile per hour wind gusts to the San Antonio region. Heavier rains are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, with 2-4 inches of projected widespread rainfall. Some localized areas may see as much as 6-8 inches of rain over the next three days.
Since the ground is already saturated due to May's heavy rains, flash flooding is likely, as is the potential for tornados, according to the National Weather Service.
On Sunday, San Antonio experienced flash flooding heavy rains rolled through the area, dumping as much as 3 inches of rain in some areas.
