After three felony indictments for securities fraud, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton no longer has the support of many of the folks who voted him into office.
A poll of likely Texas Republican voters found that 62 percent of them believe Paxton should resign. More than half of voters who themselves identified as Tea Party members, with whom Paxton received broad support, also advocated the state’s top lawyer stepping down.
The poll was conducted on behalf of the Texas Bipartisan Justice Committee by Gravis Marketing, a Florida-based polling group. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
Paxton was recently indicted on three felony counts of securities fraud. He allegedly advised people to invest of $600,000 in the North Texas technology company Servergy Inc. without telling them he’d make a commission on the investment.
Paxton will plead not guilty to the charges. His fate will likely be decided by a jury trial.
