Rackspace Open Cloud Academy Moves Next to Geekdom

The Rackspace Open Cloud Academy dedicated a new space in the downtown Rand Building — where Geekdom is — this week.

The tech company's education center works on "developing technical talent, and enhancing technical career opportunities in our local community." Students can achieve certifications, which can help bolster their careers.

More than 100 people attended the event, where the City of San Antonio presented the program and Project Quest with $200,000 for tuition assistance along with $50,000 in assistance dedicated to military veterans. It costs $3,500 for the 10-week "tech boot camp."

So far, 335 people have graduated from the Open Cloud Academy, with some receiving jobs at places like WP Engine, Cisco Systems Inc. and Digital Ocean, according to Rackspace.

The official "home warming" follows the Open Cloud Academy's September move from its original space in the Weston Centre to accommodate growing class sizes.

The donation makes it possible for hundreds of students to take advantage of the tech program, allowing them to start careers in the tech industry, bolstering San Antonio's talent pool.
