Authorities arrested a county jailer Thursday afternoon on accusations she stole money from an inmate at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
Sheriff's deputies arrested Laura Ramos Thursday and charged her with credit card abuse and theft by a public servant.
According to the sheriff's department, Ramos, who has worked at the county jail since 2006, obtained credit card info from an inmate. She allegedly agreed to deposit $500 into the person's account at the Texas Department of Corrections. At the time, the inmate was in the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
However, investigators allege she never deposited the cash and charged $2,903 to the inmate's bank account. The victim never gave her consent to use the credit card for personal gain.
Ramos is on administrative leave and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office plans to fire Ramos.
