It's celebration time in San Antone. Springtime is (almost) fully under way at this point, the Spurs are a close second in the Western Conference standings, the 125th anniversary of Fiesta is a short 55 days away, and now the Culinary Institute of America-San Antonio (312 Pearl Pkwy., 210-554-6464) has announced the grand reopening of its popular Pop-Up Bakery Café! Quite the mouthful, literally.
The CIA's Bakery Café makes its illustrious return on Wednesday, March 9, and it will remain open every weekday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. until April 14. The bakery features young culinary talent from students enrolled in the CIA cooking school, and the café will dish out both sweet and savory creations daily, as well as coffee beverages and their signature agua frescas.
Fan favorite dishes from years past will also make a comeback this year, including items like the chocolate XS cake, opera cake, coconut frangipane cupcake, alfajores, cannele de Bordeaux, white chocolate banana tarts, cranberry walnut scones and guava and manchego empanadas. In addition to these sweet treats, the café will feature a continuously revolving menu highlighting savory fare such as mac and cheese, breakfast items, bagels, salads and more.
