Report: Cattle Rustlin' Is on the Rise

Rustlin' might be on the rise in Texas. Cattle rustlin', that is (is rustlin' ever used in any other context?).

A new report by the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association shows that ranchers in Texas and Oklahoma reported 6,423 head of livestock stolen or missing in 2015. That's up from 5,790 in 2014.

Despite the uptick, cattle theft and loss is still down significantly from 2011, when 13,000 cattle were reported stolen or missing. That was at the height of the state's drought.

Theft of 10 cattle or less is a third-degree felony, and thieves can receive up to 10 years in state prison.
