Gone are the days in San Antonio when ride-haling company Uber was taboo in San Antonio.
While still operating under a pilot program that was forged in City Council after a contentious debate about the role of ride-hailing companies in San Antonio, Uber has found new partner — during Fiesta — in VIA Metropolitan Transit.
The transportation agency announced this week that Thursday through Saturday, first-time Uber customers can take the ride-hailing plunge for free as long as they use the service to plan a trip to a participating VIA Park & Ride (Crossroads Park & Ride, 151 Crossroads Blvd.; Blossom Stadium, 12002 Jones Maltsberger Road; and Frank Madla Transit Center, 1584 Cantrell Drive).
The collaboration "enhances VIA's special event service to the Battle of Flowers festivities, A Night in Old San Antonio, King William Fair, and Fiesta Flambeau Parade."
VIA Transit President/CEO Jeffery C. Arndt said the partnership provides new, safe options for San Anto residents to party responsibly.
Those who take advantage of the deal will receive special event fare ($2.50 each way) and seniors, kids, students and active duty military who are in uniform, or have a VIA Reduced Fare ID, are eligible for discounts. The park and ride locations accept cash and credit.
