Nothing says summer more than splashing in the shallows of a sunny pool with family, pretending to reapply sunscreen and insisting on the superiority of your cannonball abilities. So, luckily enough for San Antonians, tomorrow, Saturday June 11, marks the day that all city pools open for the regular pool season. Though four swim spots across the city have been open for limited hours since the beginning of May, starting tomorrow through August 14 all 23 of San Antonio’s outdoor pools will be open to the public.

With temperatures rising, and thunderclouds (hopefully) disappearing, residents are free to enjoy 18 outdoor pools which will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday. Four other regional pools (Heritage, 1423 Ellison Dr.; LBJ, 10700 Nacogdoches; South Side Lions, 3100 Hiawatha; Woodlawn, 221 Alexander Ave.) will be open for lap swim Tuesday-Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. For an added bonus, five other pools including America’s second oldest park and San Antonio oasis, San Pedro Springs (2200 N. Flores St.), will be open later from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pools are free and are closed on Mondays.

Additionally, the SA Parks and Recreation department will put on their summer-long program Let’s Swim SA, which offers free group lessons. During the 2016 regular outdoor pool season, the program, offered by the San Antonio Parks Foundation and presented by University Health Systems with Security Service Federal Credit Union as an additional partner, will provide more than 2,300 free lessons. Lifeguard clinics will also be offered by the Parks and Rec department who will hope to employ 200-plus lifeguards to work at the municipal pools across the city.

So get to it, San Antonio. Learn to swim, become a certified lifeguard, get fit or even just buy one of those huge straw sun hats, because summer, the season of  weird tan lines, is upon us.
