The cover of Charles Bradley's third effort Changes
A wounded and beautiful soul singer, Charles Bradley will make his first San Antonio appearance at Paper Tiger on Friday, November 4. Born in 1948 in Gainesville, Florida, Bradley traveled an especially long road to success, working as a cook and James Brown cover singer until his 60s. Living in Brooklyn, the hometown label Daptone Records was blown away by his talent, hooking him up with the impossibly tight Menahan Street Band for Bradley’s debut record in 2011, No Time for Dreaming.
This year, Bradley released his third effort Changes, named after the standout Black Sabbath cover on the record. Backed by Menahan and the like-minded Budos Band, Bradley scratches and screeches through ballads and upbeat funk cuts considering love, loss and determination.
