Rio Grande Valley Man Allegedly Threatened To "Purge" Pokémon Go Players

Police in the Rio Grande Valley arrested a 29-year-old man last weekend who they accuse of threatening to "purge" Pokémon Go players.

Nathan Cerda allegedly made the threat on Facebook, saying he and his friends would use modified paintball guns to inflict violence on people hunting for Pokémon through the smartphone game. 

"In his threat, Cerda warned that he and his friends were going to 'purge' those who were participating in the event. The threat mentioned the use of 'modified' paintball guns and warned everyone to 'not to be walking around,'" Harlingen police said in a press release. 

Authorities arrested Cerda, who is a registered sex offender, at his home in Hidalgo County on Saturday. Cerda was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in 2007 and spent two years in prison, Department of Public Safety records show. He is charged with making a terroristic threat.
