Last year, Stars Guard Moriah Jefferson adopted a four-month-old puppy after the Hoops and Hounds game. “We were helping out at Pets Alive, and I fell in love with her…as soon as I looked into her eyes, I was hooked. I love dogs, so my house was a little empty without one.” One dog that found a home is Kobe, whose new mom is a four-time national champion. If dogs take after their owners, Jefferson joked that Kobe will be, “a little tough, a little feisty, but at the end of the day she’s going to be nice.”
The San Antonio Stars will welcome both human and canine fans when they host the annual Hoops & Hounds game, presented by Raising Cane’s, on Saturday, June 10. Tipoff vs. the Chicago Sky is set for 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Four-legged friends can be brought to the game for only $5. The first 1,000 dogs in attendance will receive a Raising Cane’s food scoop. In addition, the first 50 fans who bring needed supplies will receive a complimentary Box Combo card good at any of Raising Cane’s ten San Antonio area locations. All dogs must be on a leash, accompanied by an adult (one dog per person) and will be directed to enter through the Bud Light Courtyard on the West side of the arena. Water and relief stations will be set up throughout the courtyard. Dogs will be featured in various in-game elements throughout the evening. Additionally, local rescue groups will be set up on the concourse at the AT&T Center with dogs and cats available for adoption for fans wishing to give a forever home to a furry friend. Raising Cane’s will provide a gift basket for each Stars fan who adopts an animal at the game while supplies last.
The Stars will also feature adoptable dogs on the team’s social media channels throughout the week, giving fans a closer look at some of the pets that are ready for new homes. Fans can also vote in the Cutest Dog Contest from fan-submitted photos at SAStars.com through Tuesday, June 6th. The winner will receive tickets to the Hoops & Hounds game and an in-game spotlight.
