The man behind HEB's Central Market stores, John Morgan Campbell, has been charged for possessing and sending pornographic images of minors in 2014. The 53-count indictment came after Campbell accidentally attached one of the images to a work email with an HEB employee, who called the police.
Prosecutor Josh Somers told a District Court jury Wednesday that when Campbell was arrested, he allegedly told officers, “You got me,” and “This is what happens when you do stupid things," according to an Express-News report.
Campbell's defense attorneys were unable to convince District Court Judge Catherine Torres-Stahl to suppress the photos as evidence in the trial Wednesday on the grounds that they would have prevented a fair trial to the former HEB Vice President of Innovation. The defense argued that the images may have been Photoshopped to make legal, 18-year-old men look like minors.
Campbell, the brain behind HEB's popular Central Market grocery stores, will appear in court again Friday for continued testimony. If convicted, he could face up to 600 years in prison.
