On Monday, New Braunfels City Council selected resident Wanda Sandlin to serve as board member for the local housing authority. Except, Sandlin is dead.
According to KSAT, New Braunfels City Council announced that Sandlin would fill the open position only to be informed that she had died in August.
Mayor Barron Casteel told KSAT that the board usually calls applicants before voting on the appointment, which was on Monday evening's agenda. Casteel said "someone called Sandlin," but admitted to KSAT that Sandlin didn't answer. Thus, her name was left on the list of applicants.
One of the city council members, Wayne Peters, told KSAT that the board will "most likely" ask the City of New Braunfels to reevaluate the selection process.
According to KENS, the city is also looking for someone to replace Sandlin, though she was never really in the position.
RIP Wanda Sandlin.
