In conjunction with the Jewish Film Festival, San Antonio gets a chance to see a homegrown story of female empowerment and inspiration in the form of this documentary film on Marcia Nasatir, one of the first women to find success as an executive at a major Hollywood studio during the 1970s. Originally from San Antonio, Nasatir, a nonagenarian who lives in Santa Monica, California, attended Thomas Jefferson High School and went on to graduate from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1947. During a time when women were rarely seen in leadership roles in Hollywood, Nasatir became the first female vice president of production at United Artists in 1974. She worked behind the scenes on a number of Oscar-winning films, including Rocky, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Apocalypse Now and later as an executive producer on The Big Chill.
