A Dialogue Between Artists Francisco Oller and Camille Pissarro

When: Thu., May 18, 6:30 p.m. 2017
Price: $15-$20
Two painters with Caribbean roots meet in Paris in 1858—Francisco Oller, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Camille Pissarro, born on the island of St. Thomas. The artists form a friendship and nurture a shared mindset about painting pictures that honor peasants and place. McNay Director Richard Aste co-curated the exhibition Impressionism and the Caribbean: Francisco Oller and His Transatlantic World, which was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. His lecture expands the narrative about non-European artists as participants in the Impressionist revolution.
