While many people know A Streetcar Named Desire as a 1951 film — one of the best ever — starring Marlon Brando, Vivien Leigh and Kim Hunter, it was a Pulitzer Prize-winning play four years before the movie premiered. Written by Tennessee Williams, one of the true masters of American drama, Streetcar follows Southern belle Blanche DuBois as she moves to New Orleans and takes up residence with her sister Stella and her incorrigible husband Stanley Kowalski. Whether you already love it or have yet to experience it, any chance to see Streetcar performed is special. You’ll have just such a chance this weekend, as the Vex opens its four-weekend run of the indisputable classic on Saturday. This incarnation of the masterwork is directed by Dylan Brainard and stars Regina Burpo, Kevin Cox, Matthew Halteman and Sarah Hamilton among others.
