ACL liveblogging: girls luv miike snow

Unfortunately, Girls, who have one of the year's best records, ran into sound problems. Like, the sound guy couldn't find the mic channel sound problems. That didn't help the small crowd (oddly comprised of a lot of white-wine-drinking middle-aged women) grow. Too bad, because Girls' brand of sweet surf rock is perfect for mid-day festivities.

I made a mental note to drive to Austin next time Girls are on a bill and headed over to check out Miike Snow, Sweden's new it electro group. Contested to Girls, the Miike group was HUGE. I got there right as the lead singer from Vampire Weekend jumped onstage to sing "Kids Don't Stand a Chance" backed by throbbing bass and blippy synth. Unlike Girls, nothing about Miike Snow is appropriate for 3pm on a Friday. Not their moody, sexy synth rock, not their slick black windbreaker uniform. Still they played a super professional show, sans bitching about the unflattering daylight and uncomfortable heat.

OK, we are having some technical difficulties, so blogging can't quite be live, but our awesome art director and I will get you as close as possible!
