After months of tip toeing around his intentions to run for mayor of San Antonio, Tommy Adkisson finally made his big announcement.

"I'm in and ready to stay home," Adkisson exclaimed on his Facebook page. "As many of you know, I am fresh from four, four-year terms of office in local government as County Commissioner where I challenged the status quo on a range of fronts."

Adkisson says the Alamo City needs balanced growth and a back to basics approach toward putting priorities in perspective.

"Legacy projects must work in concert with the fundamentals. Visitors must be heartily welcomed but residents take priority," Adkisson said in his Facebook announcement. "Furthermore, we must make a solemn commitment to sustainable neighborhoods. We can and we must do better, but not without a renewal of our commitment to greatness and true civic pride in all, not just a few of our neighborhoods regardless of their age."

Adkisson joins Mike Villarreal, Leticia Van de Putte and Paul Martinez in the race.
