Musical prankster Frank Zappa once noted you can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline.

Looks like the former may also hold true for football teams — at least in the eyes of the San Antonio Commanders.

The Alliance of American Football startup team is collaborating with Alamo Beer Co. on a pair of seasonal craft brews that will carry the Commanders' name. The SA-based brewer will begin distributing Commanders Light and Commanders Amber during the first quarter of this year.

General Manager Daryl Johnston, Head Coach Mike Riley and some of the team's players were on hand for a Thursday night unveiling at Alamo's East Side brewpub.

“The development of the two co-branded beers provides a unique tool that lets San Antonio know the Commanders have arrived and are eager to become part of the fabric of the Alamo City community,” Team President Vic Gregovits said in a written statement.

As those who have followed the history of pro football here know, the Commanders can probably use every drop of promotional help they get. San Antonio's hosted at least a dozen failed football leagues over the past few decades.
