Let’s face it: contemporary art can pretentious as hell, often excluding viewers with esoteric concepts that add up to little more than an inside joke. During our recent visit to Florida to attend Art Basel Miami Beach, Pulse, Scope, Prizm and other art fairs, there was no shortage of art that takes itself far too seriously ... but also refreshing doses of humor in the form of bizarre creations that ran the gamut from hybrid taxidermy and otherworldly specimens to dinosaur kitties and erotic anime.
