The biblical rains have been hard on Texas’s farmers, and in turn have affected the produce available at the city’s newest farmers market, which sets up every Friday at 8 a.m. at the Pearl Brewery and runs until 2 p.m. or depletion.

“A lot of them have had to replant,” says Texas Farm to Table proprietor and market organizer Brian Montgomery. “There will be no good true Texas peaches at any farmers market for the rest of the year.”

But, says the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Robert Maggiani, there will still be plenty of fresh, locally produced goods: Organic collard and mustard greens, radishes, and spinach, plus okra, Owl’s Nuts, potted herbs, Texas honey, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes.

Chef Andrew Weissman returns from summer vacation this week and reopens SA’s sole Mobil Four Star restaurant: Le Rêve is taking reservations for dinner beginning August 30 ( or 210-212-2221). But you needn’t mortgage the house or call ahead if you want fresh seafood: After a hiatus caused by a personnel shortage, Weissman’s Sandbar also reopens in the Exchange Building at North St. Mary’s and Pecan, on September 4, serving dinner from 5-11 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
