Amuse-BOUCHE, new assistant to SA’s growing organic consciousness, arrived in the Alamo City from its hometown, Austin, in October, and co-founder Mason Arnold says business is good. “People are signing up right and left” in the northern half of town where the grocery-delivery service is currently available.

If you plan your menus ahead of time and stick reasonably close to them, as Greenling suggests, the weekly basket drops can replace your store runs and restore some of your pocket money. “The feedback we’ve received is that people save money,” Arnold says, “because they end up not buying all the impulse buys.”

Greenling customers build an order using the website’s state-of-the-art online shopping cart and informative pop-up boxes, selecting from locally grown and out-of-state organic and pesticide-free produce, dairy, and meats. Then Greenling delivers to your home or office (yeah, organic office snacks!) on a pre-scheduled date. You can also create a series of baskets to be delivered on an alternating schedule.

San Antonians, observes Arnold, tend to be worried about not being home, but the bins are insulated. Betsy Ross’s grass-fed beef has been popular, as are cheeses and baby foods (not busting any stereotypes there, Say-Towners).
