“Paper or plastic” is a phrase that should have been tossed out of your vocab long ago, and Whole Foods is giving you a hand by eliminating plastic bags at their checkout counters. The newest addition to their fun line of eco-friendly, reusable bags is the colorful Better Bag, made of recycled bottles and weighing in at a cheap 99 cents. Other options are the versatile Eco-Sac for $5.99, which expands to carry a sizeable load, and the mesh Eco-Sac Garden Sac for produce. When asked if Central Market would be following suit, Administrative Assistant Martha Lopez said they have discussed eliminating plastic bags, but she doesn’t see it happening anytime soon. Instead, CM encourages consumers to pick up their $1.99 reusable black totes. And don’t tell A-B you’re still opting for plastic because you have puppy poop to scoop — PetSmart offers a variety of 100-percent biodegradable bags at just over $5 a roll.

You can double-purpose that Garden Sac Thursdays at the San Antonio Botanical Garden, 555 Funston, where the San Antonio Farmers Market Association will push fresh produce from 8 a.m.-
1 p.m. weekly beginning May 8. for more info.
