Melissa Guerra’s new namesake shop in the Full Goods building at the Pearl Brewery Development is Williams-Sonoma stripped of its excess and themed “Mexico.” The McAllen native and star of the PBS series the Texas Provincial Kitchen, has created a tienda-style boutique where traditional comales are right at home with that racer-red Cuisinart you’ve been lusting after. To the right you’ll find the latest silicone kitchen helpers; to the left, enameled Sacred Heart belt buckles and basic guayaberas in every size; in the middle, beautiful hand-painted wooden chests and seasonal Le Creuset crocks; and on the back wall, a selection of gorgeous and unusual Mexican pottery. Pairing Guerra’s impulse-friendly shop with the CIA-San Antonio, the locavore-friendly Farm to Table café, and Andrew Weissman’s forthcoming Il Sogno, Pearl is shaping up to be a day-trip- worthy foodie destination (and footsie destination, if you plan far enough ahead to schedule a pedicure at the Aveda Institute; The shop is open from 10am-6:30pm Monday-Saturday, and the extremely friendly staff will happily walk you through the wares. or
