PICK OF THE WEEK:
Blade Runner

(Warner Bros.)

This is the kind of thing the DVD era was made for. As with Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, Ridley Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece has a long history of alteration and compromise, all of which is detailed in a box set containing not two, but five versions of the film, plus enough supplements to choke a replicant. Available, praise the Maker, on DVD and both high-def formats.

Once
(Fox)

This little charmer — part musical and part romance — built a cult following in theaters, winning over everyone I know who managed to see it. It should do even better on home video, where new fans will eagerly pass it to their friends.

That’s Entertainment!: Complete Collection
(Warner Bros.)

The big DVD package of a few years back, which distilled the greatest hits of a few decades worth of musicals into one easy box set, gets the Blu-ray/HD-DVD treatment this week.

The Simpsons Movie
(Fox)

Certainly not the Worst. Series. to. Movie. Ever., the Simpson clan’s move to the silver screen boasted its share of big laughs even if it has more in common with the tired feel of recent seasons than with the brilliance of the early years.

The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones, Vol. 2 (Paramount): The fourth Indy movie is scheduled for May release, so this box of eight made-for-TV features is well timed to stoke our interest in history’s most death-defying archaeologist.
