"Art in Pop Culture"

Connecting the dots between Pop Art and its older, more politically inclined older sister Dada, the City of San Antonio’s Arts & Culture department’s group show “MetaDada: High Art for the POPulace” presents works by 11 local artists in an intriguing format that tinkers with scale and turns the gallery walls into works of art in their own right. Second in a quartet of programs inspired by the exhibition, “Art in Pop Culture” takes shape in a screening revisiting especially artsy episodes of the retro sitcoms The Jeffersons, The Golden Girls and Good Times. Aside from these blasts from the past and extended viewing hours of “MetaDada,” the free gathering sweetens the deal with an Andy Warhol-inspired performance from local wildcard Raul Gonzalez and music from the delightfully eclectic mind of former Alamo City resident DJ Jester the Filipino Fist.
