news and notes from the san antonio art scene On Sunday, May 11, Gemini Ink's Dramatic Reader's Theater presents "Bond of Sympathy: A Celebration of Family." The event is described as a hybrid of theatrical performance and literary reading exploring multiple perspectives on the concept of the family. The Dramatic Reader's Theater series presents eight productions per year, selected and compiled by Nan Cuba and directed by Maia Adamina. "Bond of Sympathy" includes stories and poems by Dorothy Allison, Tom Lux, David Sedaris, Norma Elia Cantú, Walter McDonald, and Rosemary Catacalos, and excerpts from Steel Magnolias, Blood Wedding, Fences, and Death of a Salesman. The performance is from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gemini Ink, located at 513 S. Presa. Admission is a suggested donation of $5.

Houston-based microcinema the Aurora Picture Show has announced an open call for entries for its 6th-annual Extremely Short Shorts Festival. All entries must be three minutes in length or shorter and postmarked by May 15. Go to aurorapictureshow.org/ or call 713-868-2101 for entry forms and details. This year's festival entries will be judged by Portland, Oregon-based filmmaker Matt McCormick, director of the widely well received mock-u-mentary, The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal. •
