Finesilver/FYI Gallery will host an opening in honor of artists Joel Morrison, Aaron Parazette, and Leo Villareal on Thursday, June 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. LA-based sculptor Joel Morrison spins pedestrian trash into proverbial gold by melding found fodder into abstract forms and enveloping them in fiberglass, enamel, bronze, or aluminum. Houston-based painter Parazette's latest series continues his foray into gestured abstraction. New York-based Villareal plays with time and technology in his elaborately sequenced light creations. New work by all three artists will be on display through August 23.

For all you slackers out there, July 1 is the absolute, no-you-can't-have-another-day, tough shit, sorry Charlie, you're screwed deadline for Blue Star's first Salon Open Studio Tour. The self-guided tour runs October 3 through 5 in tandem with a variety of supporting events, including an art auction and art critic panel discussion. If you have any program or eligibility questions, call the very overworked Oakley Allred at Blue Star before it's too late. She can be reached at 227-6960.

Heads up: NEXT Thursday (July 3), be prepared for the eternally kooky Hills Snyder's "Son of Samson" at the Cactus Bra. The gallery's cryptic press release for the event reads:

"Dear Sam,

"I think I heard that you were going to do something with The Double? Is that for real? I can still remember when you did that thing with The One and The Many. Wasn't that at Three Walls, right next door to Cactus Bra? Anyway, you are a Titan if there ever was one.

"And something is going to happen at 8:30, right?

"Would it be weird if I showed up?

Hmmmmm. If that doesn't make you want to go, I don't know what will.

The Cactus Bra is located at 106C Blue Star, and the phone number is 226-6688. The artist's reception is on Thursday, July 3, from 6 to 9 p.m.
