News and notes from the San Antonio art scene

Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. Fall deadlines are upon us. Better dust off that résumé and pucker up.

The City of San Antonio Public Art & Design Enhancement Program is looking for an artist for the Great Northwest Library Expansion. The selected artist will work closely with the project architect (yet to be announced) to develop unique design enhancement components that will be incorporated into the structure. Artists in the greater San Antonio area are encouraged to apply. Send a completed application and résumé to Tamara Langwell, Program Manager for the City of San Antonio Public Art & Design Enhancement at tlangwell@sanantonio.gov. Applications are available online at SAPubArt`pdf`. Langwell can also be reached at 207-5951.

Arthouse (formerly the TFAA) in Austin announced an open call for the 18th installment of "New American Talent," the gallery's annual juried exhibition. U.S. residents working in all media are eligible to apply. Works will be selected by Jerry Saltz, Senior Art Critic for the Village Voice. The show will open at Jones Center (700 Congress Ave., Austin) June 2004 and travel through June 2006. Submission deadline is December 15. For an entry form and additional information, go to www.arthousetexas.org, e-mail nat@arthousetexas.org, or call 512-453-5312.

Not that we are in any hurry to lose one of our own, but there is a position open at the University of California, Irvine: a tenure track post in contemporary curatorial studies as the Director of the UC Irvine Art Gallery. A Ph.D. in Art History or Visual Culture or the equivalent is required. Applicant reviews begin November 15 for the July 1, 2004 position. Send a letter of application, a CV, and names and contact information for three references to Yong Soon Min, Chair at the Department of Studio Art, 300 Arts, UC Irvine, Irvine, CA 92697-2775. •
