We at the Current agree that the name of local DIY organization Bumrush may not have been the most appropriate moniker for a group providing clothing and cold winter gear for local homeless folk, but we’ve decided to cut them some slack since they are providing needed help to valued community members.

As the winter season approaches (yes, it’s hard to believe Old Man Winter hasn’t arrived yet `just for the record, December 22 marks the first official day of winter`) the temperature begins to dip into uncomfortable levels and it’s especially hard for the homeless.

Bumrush started as an individual effort in Dallas but has since made its way down to San Anto by way of a local student at the International Academy of Design and Technology.

The main goal for Bumrush “is to remind `the homeless` that there are people out there who know and remember that they are human beings.” By offering a jacket, blanket, or scarf, a difference is being made even in the slightest of ways.

Bumrush is currently seeking participants and sponsors; for more information visit our local sector’s web site If you’re already prepared to give, stop by local hotspots The Mix or Nightmare on Grayson.
