ARTIFACTS

Artpace opens an exhibition of work by London-based architect David Adjaye this week, and one of the many good reasons to see it is that, thanks to the late Linda Pace, Adjaye has been commissioned to design a building in San Antonio for her collection. “She always liked to expose San Antonio to things it had not been exposed to before,” Linda Pace Foundation trustee Rick Moore told the Current last year, and Adjaye’s high-profile commissions, including Denver’s new LEED-certified Museum of Contemporary Art, indicate that the Tanzanian-born architect will bring visual and functional innovation to the project.

“As you are aware, David is an architect who works with a high degree of artist sensibility,” Moore wrote via email. Adjaye will return to SA to unveil the design for the Foundation’s building once the details are finalized. “We hope to be able to have a public announcement by David within the next nine months.”

The Adjaye Artpace show opens with a reception from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at 445 N. Main. Adjaye gives a free public lecture tonight, September 10, 6:30 p.m., at the UTSA Downtown Campus, Buena Vista Building, corner of Durango and Frio. (210) 212-4900 or artpace.org for info.
