Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro-Latin Jazz Octet

Performing at the Carver Center on May 5th, Arturo O'Farrill, pianist, composer, educator and director of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra is best known for his contributions to contemporary Latin jazz, and more specifically, Afro-Cuban jazz. O’Farrill received two Grammy Awards for albums Song for Chico in 2009 and The Offense of the Drum in 2015. His newest album, Cuba: The Conversation Continues, is based on dialogue and cross-cultural collaborations by enlisting four of today’s premiere Cuban composers and six world-class American composers/arrangers. O’Farrill’s longstanding devotion to bringing Cuba and the U.S. together through the power of music has garnered him much praise.
