Days after being excoriated on the Interwebs for a tweet joking about the coronavirus, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, now faces accusations of racism for claiming China’s to blame for the outbreak because folks there “eat bats and snakes and dogs.”

The comment came after a reporter asked the unflinching Trump ally about the wisdom of our reality-show president repeatedly calling the disease a “Chinese Virus.”

“China has been the source of a lot of these viruses like SARS, like MERS, the Swine Flu,” Cornyn fired back.

In addition to being racist on its fucking face, the remark seems to echo a widely debunked rumor that the outbreak resulted after someone slurped down bat soup. It also shows Ol’ Corny knows as much about infectious disease as he does winning favor with Asian American voters: neither MERS nor Swine Flu originated in China.

And did we mention the remarks were captured on video? No doubt Cornyn’s Democratic opponent will have them on infinite TV repeat as the senator faces reelection this fall.

Keep on running that big mouth of yours, assclown.
