Austin Baroque Orchestra presents "Fernando y Bárbara"

Though little-known today, Ferdinand VI was Spain's most musical monarch. From their palace at Aranjuez, Ferdinand and his queen, Bárbara de Braganza, oversaw an army of Spanish and Italian musicians who provided musical entertainment day and night for the couple and their courtiers. Among their musical entourage was the famed castrato Farinelli, who served as their director of opera, and Domenico Scarlatti, who had been the Queen's harpsichord tutor since the age of ten. This program will feature music enjoyed by the king and queen, performed by a full orchestra with two soprano soloists. Informal pre-concert talk starts 30 minutes before the show.
