Levitation (formerly Austin Psych Fest) is back with a vengeance after its 2016 cancellation due to inclement weather. That same year the folks behind the fest released a statement saying they would be postponing the event until 2018. Holy shit – this lineup is definitely worth the wait.
On Thursday, festival organizers released the first round of artists on the lineup, including iconic industrial act Ministry, shoegazy English band Slowdive, and Chelsea Wolfe, the reigning queen of post-doom metal and my most listened to artist on my Spotify this year. Like I'll probably cry to death watching her play next year.
Also on the bill are local Austinites the Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ty Segall, Panda Bear, Thee Oh Sees, Parquet Courts and Dan Deacon, which we're all pretty excited for.
Possibly to avoid another potential weather disaster, the festival has returned to its original format and will be held at Red River club venues. including Stubb’s, The Mohawk, Barracuda, Empire Control Room, Cheer Up Charlies, Emo’s and more.
Here’s the lineup for phase 1:
THE BLACK ANGELS
THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE
THEE OH SEES
S U R V I V E
HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF
GOLDEN DAWN ARKESTRA
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE
RUBY THE HATCHET
A GIANT DOG
LAKE OF FIRE
Founded in 2008 and curated by record label and Levitation Festival creator The Reverberation Appreciation Society, the Austin-based music festival has morphed into a worldwide phenomenon, even branching into France and Vancouver.
While the $400 all-access tickets sold out pretty much as soon as the lineup was announced, tickets are available for each show here.
