Co-founded by Walson Botelho and Ninho Reis and billed as Brazil’s first and only professional folk dance company, Balé Folclórico Da Bahia interprets age-old traditions in festive performances fusing live music, theatrical costuming, acrobatics and choreography inspired by samba and capoeira. Since its launch in 1998, the award-winning troupe has mastered a time-traveling repertoire that spans from colonial-era slave dances to a joyous finale inspired by Rio’s Carnival. Touring the United States since 1995, the 38-member company brings its Sacred Heritage tour to the Lila Cockrell courtesy of ARTS San Antonio.
