“I love a client that comes in with a problem,” says 2011 BOSA winner Michelle A. Jiménez Reyes, “I like a good challenge.” For nine and a half years her prize-winning hands have specialized in Swedish massage, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, and have recently incorporated a new technique: cupping. Reyes describes cupping as “a different massage” and works with a plastic or silicon cup to suction the skin in what’s called negative pressure to draw out toxins. In addition to working her magic on clientele and the Alamo City Rollergirls (she is their official massage therapist), Reyes is an advocate and founder of the group Wear A Helmet For Your Mom, created after her son suffered a serious motorcycle accident. They raise funds for the Alamo Head Injury Association or to purchase helmets for children. Now, doesn’t that make you feel good?
