Bexar County Jury Sentences 'Cop Killer' To Death
Bexar County

Mark Anthony Gonzalez, 45, is the third person in Texas this year to be sentenced to death.

Bexar County jurors levied the sentence on Tuesday against Gonzalez, who is convicted of shooting Bexar County Sgt. Kenneth Vann more 26 times in 2011.

"Today, jurors made the right decision,” District Attorney Nico LaHood said in a press release. “I commend them for their hard work and perseverance. Unfortunately, I know what the Vann family is going through. I will continue to pray for them as they move to the step of healing from this tragedy."

Gonzalez was arrested in June 2011 after confessing to a friend.

Investigators learned that on May 28, 2011, he pulled up next to Vann at a stoplight at Loop 410 and Rigsby Road and opened fire on Vann, killing him.
