The event will recognize the 50-year union of Ybarra-Frausto and his partner Dudley Brooks while also commemorating Frausto’s contribution to scholarship on the work of LGBTQIA artists. The installation will feature photography, recorded soundscape and paintings highlighting Ybarra-Frausto’s achievements.
AIDS Lady Anna De Luna will provide HIV/AIDS testing during the reception. Informational tables discussing voter registration, affordable housing and GLBTQ-friendly political groups like Human Rights Campaign San Antonio will be present as well.
A poolside performance by Los Nahuatlatos will bring Latin-fusion sounds to the exhibit, serving as a direct homage to Ybarra-Frausto’s work in Chicanx literature. A special performance by Dr. Rita Urquijo-Ruiz and accordionist Joaquin Linn will take place shortly after as guests enjoy margaritas and fruit paletas.
The event will last from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. To register, visit eventbrite.com.
