Austin-based singer-songwriter Bob Schneider’s career solo output, which began in earnest in 1999, after he had played for years as a member of several bands with surprisingly disparate sounds, is hallmarked by two major assets: his knack for adapting Americana forms without either copying or losing what’s best about them, and his consistency as a lyric writer and vocalist. You can hear the blues, funk, rock and pop of Schneider’s past on his albums, but all roads lead back down the dusty road of (sometimes sentimental) Texas country. His latest album, Blood and Bones, which came out in the summer, is his strongest and most complete effort to date. It’s a testament to Schneider’s ability to follow his own interests and eschew the dictates of the mainstream. At this weekend’s show, attendees can expect a heavy dose of the new album as well as a smattering of selections from Schneider’s extensive back catalog.
