7 p.m., my ass! I sat through two great bands, Low Anthem and Alejandro Escovedo, before Springsteen came into a Moody Theater not quite full yet. "Happy Birthday, Woodie Guthrie," the Boss crowed before breaking into an amazingly uplifting version of Woodie's song, "I Ain't Got No Home.” With Little Steven leading the song on mandolin, the show started like a spiritual mass.
Springsteen shared some of his thoughts about SXSW during the show as well. "It's fucking crazy here. It's a music junkie's wet dream
We're here to kick some Tex-Ass."
The Boss brought out special guest Tom Morello for three songs — "Death to My Hometown," "Jack of All Trades," and "The Ghost of Tom Joad" — which Morello used to cover with Rage Against the Machine.
