CAM Open Studios Staff Pick

When: Sun., March 19, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. 2017
Price: Free
A favorite among the signatures of Contemporary Art Month, the CAM Open Studios event offers the community an up-close-and-personal view of San Antonio creatives in work spaces as varied as the artists themselves. Presenting something of a Choose Your Own Adventure Sunday, the daylong affair requires a bit of mapping and planning but easily pays off via memorable experiences and interactions. After getting familiar with the likes of photographer Josh Huskin (11am-5pm, 1100 Broadway, Suite 311), painter and found-object sculptor James Hetherington (noon-4pm, 121 Pierce Ave.), the molten glass workers of Caliente Hot Glass (noon-4pm, 1411 N. Hackberry St.), mixed-media master Larry Graeber (noon-4pm, 127 E. Wildwood Drive), fast-rising drawing star Fernando Andrade (noon-4pm, 15415 Spring Coral, call (210) 584-8176 for gate code), the artists of gallery/studio Mercury Project (noon-4pm, 538 Roosevelt Ave.), painter Rex Hausmann and others tenants of the eclectic compound known as Hausmann Millworks (noon-4pm, 925 W. Russell Pl.), Clamp Light resident artists Carol Cunningham, Sarah Fox, Sarah T. Roberts, Jen Frost Smith, Tom Turner and Jose Villalobos, not to mention “honorary astronaut” and American Interterrestrial Society member Christine Zuercher (noon-5pm, 1704 Blanco Road, Suite 104), guests would be remiss not to wind down the day at Zollie Glass Studio, where local glass authority Jake Zollie Harper annually holds court over a kid-friendly after party complete with glass-blowing demos, DJ music, food truck fare for purchase and complimentary wine and beer.
