Can't Beat Love Staff Pick

When: Wed., Feb. 28, 7 p.m. 2018
Price: Free
Sponsored by Family Violence Prevention Services and the National Council of Jewish Women, among other community partners, the Can’t Beat Love youth film contest aims to give local teens a platform to creatively address an array of difficult issues. Having previously challenged high schoolers with tackling themes such as peer pressure, bullying and substance abuse, Can’t Beat Love sets its sights on the troubling topic of teen trafficking. Responding to an open call for submissions, more than 200 local filmmakers created brief films (between 30 seconds and five minutes) falling in the categories of Public Service Announcement and Short Film (documentary, animation or foreign language). Emceed by WOAI news anchor Amanda Weber, Wednesday’s Awards Night screening will honor six standouts with prizes ranging from $125 (third place in PSA category) to $700 (first place in short film category). The evening also includes a local dance team performance, games and music by DJ Switchblade.
